Through death comes power

Several centuries ago, the Cult of Orcus rose to prominence when a necromancer by the name of Toraun was successful in gathering a large group of people together for the cause of summoning Orcus from the Hells. No one is quite sure how long before this time they had existed, but once Toraun enacted his plot, the underground cult was put on the map. This plot involved the creation of a giant portal in Aridicus, and the logistics necessary to gather and use the materials for this portal caught the attention of many magic users around Cronus who figured out what he was doing and fought back. A war was waged on the sands of Aridicus. Whenever an agent of good fell, they would be raised to fight for the cult. And so the war went on for many months. The cult won this war, but when Toraun activated the portal, it wiped out all who had gathered to worship Orcus. The portal worked, but the magic that locked Orcus in the Hells was too strong. It destroyed the portal and left a gash in the earth.

Since that time, the Cult of Orcus has laid low, worshiping in secret and hiding from any force that would work against them. Many believe that they have disbanded entirely.
