Myrkul, Lord of Bones, left only one of them as proof of his existence

Once the lord of the Hells, Myrkul fought for Orcus in the War of the Gods. His ambition, however, was to surpass Orcus and ascend to godhood himself. When Orcus learned of his treachery, he ripped Myrkul's skull from his skeleton body and tossed it into the Seldora Forrest.

Anyone who finds and attunes to the Skull of Myrkul is able to cast a modified version of Power Word Kill. The modifications are as follows:

You can cast Power Word Kill at any level, however, each level below 9th cuts the required number of hit points by one third. So, at 8th level, the target needs only 66.667 hit points, at 7th level the target needs only 44.444, etc.

You can only cast Power Word Kill at the levels of magic to which you naturally have access, and the spell will use up a spell slot.

If you naturally have access to 9th level Power Word Kill, the skull will allow you to cast it without the expenditure of a spell slot, however, you will only have 15 charges, each of which is expended according to the level at which the spell is cast (level 9 uses 9 charges, level 8 uses 8 charges, etc). These charges refresh after a long rest.

[As a note, if you have it learned and ready, you may cast the original, level 9 Power Word Kill as part of your natural spell inventory (using a spell slot) and then cast it from the Skull if you wish. This will allow two castings (or however many level 9 slots you have +1) per long rest at level 9.]

With a WIS (Medicine) check contested against the target's CON check, you may know the exact number of hit points the target has, however, this will take up an action. You cannot make this check and cast Power Word Kill in the same round.

NOTE: Since these are fractional values, if you cast Power Word Kill at a target with a number of hit points that would survive an HP requirement that has been rounded down, but not rounded up, that target is not dead, but unconscious and stable. This overrides any immunity.
